Brief summary of the project:

Logistics is defined as a scientific discipline that studies the principles of planning, organizing and controlling the flows of material, people, energy and information in systems in an interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary manner. Logistics optimizes flows in order to create economic effects and prepare all activities for the complex preparation and realization of spatial and temporal transformation of goods and knowledge. The emphasis is on minimal costs and optimization with the goal of increasing profitability. On the basis of this, we can conclude that modern logistics is a synergistic array of both technical and technological, that is, engineering as well as economic-business, i.e. social sciences. Smart logistics processes are upgrading classical logistics with modern technologies, especially in the field of connectivity of all elements in the logistics chain from raw materials to the final consumer.

With this, smart logistics also relates to the concepts of smart cities and industry 4.0, where all three concepts are a common aspiration for high-tech, user-friendly, and automated operation in pursuing the goals of performance, efficiency, and sustainable operation. In spite of the fact that these are concepts which are inevitably connected in the urban context, it is precisely in the field of the connection between all three concepts, both at the scientific and the professional level, that there is a lack of knowledge and understanding of the needs for integration of concepts into a comprehensive model of operation. As said, modern technology is becoming inclusive and has a key role in the area of cities, industry and logistics. In recent years, the concepts of smart cities, industry 4.0, and smart logistics and transport have been increasingly emphasized, which are crucial to each other.
